In Red Roses and Petrol, Enda’s family wrestles with the question of what to do with his remains. Enda wished for his ashes to be sprinkled on a mountain so he’d “go into the food chain a bit higher than everyone else.” Alas, his children, who reside in different countries, wanted to split up the “Da” and take him with them — even if it meant doing it in a lunchbox! Has your family faced an unusual dilemma following the death of a loved one? What did you decide to do? Share your story on our forum.

According to the Manchester Evening News website, Red Roses And Petrol’s Max Beesley and Emmy-winner Gub Neal will co-produce a film called Mr. Goodnight. Described as a “gangster movie,” the story will be set in Manchester, England, in the 1960s and will be shot in and around the city. In addition, Beesley will play the lead character (an amalgamation of four people from that time), and his close pal, Ray Winstone, will co-star as a police inspector. “It’s a subject I know quite a lot about, through coming from Manchester,” offers Beesley, whose jazz drummer father worked there at a cabaret club and is helping to provide research.” It’s not just a gangster flick. It’s a love story with a few hijackings and robberies thrown in for good measure.” The movie, which is in pre-production, does not yet have a date to begin principle photography.
In Red Roses And Petrol, a reflective Enda Doyle asks, “What’s more important: To be a good man or to be a good father to your children?” Interesting question! But are the two mutually exclusive? If you volunteer in your community, earn a regular paycheck and go to church every week, but routinely break promises to your kids, are you still a good man? Conversely, if you coach Little League, help your son with his homework, and take him fishing every summer, and yet you’re cheating on the boy’s mother… are you still a good father? Enda waited until his dying days to ponder this conundrum. Do you have an opinion? Visit the Red Roses and Petrol forum to share your comments.
Red Roses and Petrol’s Max Beesley stars in the upcoming miniseries, The Last Enemy. In it, he plays opposite Benedict Cumberbatch and BAFTA-winner Anamaria Marinca as a man caught up in a love triangle. But don’t expect this mysterious thriller to turn into a romance; the five-part drama takes an intriguing look at how modern technology could turn Britain into a surveillance society! Shot in London in early 2007, The Last Enemy will air in the UK in mid-February on BBC One and will make its stateside debut this fall as part of PBS’ in Masterpiece Contemporary showcase.
While many folks are sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for Johnny Depp to reprise Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 4, friends of Red Roses and Petrol might be interested in the return of cast member Greg Ellis. Word has it that the UK actor, who plays Catherine Doyle’s American fiancé in the Irish-American film, has been asked back as British officer Lieutenant Groves in the next installment of the popular Disney movie series. Avid fans might have also caught Ellis’ voice in the Pirates of the Caribbean video games, as well as in the recent gaming hit “Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.”
